So you want to play blackjack online? This hugely popular card-comparing game is available to play at most online casinos. The majority of casino sites have at least a few options for blackjack players, including both animated and live games. If you’re new to this game and want a few pointers on playing it online, stay on this page and you might learn a thing or two.

An Overview of Blackjack Gameplay

In case you’re not sure exactly how blackjack works, it’s a game where you and the dealer compare hands of cards. In general, your aim is for your hand to be closer in value to 21 than the dealer’s, however, your real goal is to simply beat the dealer. The game usually uses one, two, six or eight standard decks of 52 cards. All cards are worth their face value except royals (J, Q and K), which are worth 10, and the ace, which can be worth 1 or 11.

When the game starts, you and the dealer receive two cards. One of the dealer’s is face-up so you can see what it is. If either player has 21 (i.e. any card worth 10 and an ace), they win and the other loses. If both have 21, it’s a tie. Most of the time, neither player will have 21 and the game will proceed as normal.

You get to act first. There are five things you can do with your hand:

• Hit: Get dealt another card.
• Stand: Receive no more cards.
• Double Down: Double your bet, receive one more card and stand.
• Split: Only available when your two cards have the same value. Double your bet and split your hand in two, creating two separate ones.
• Surrender: Lose half your bet and end the hand.

Once you’re done with your hand, it’s the dealer’s turn. They have to hit until their hand is worth 17 or more. If their hand contains an ace worth 11, some games require the dealer to stand, while others require the dealer to hit.  It is better for the player if the dealer stands on all 17s.

When the dealer’s done, whoever is closest to 21 wins, though ties can happen. It’s also possible for a player to go bust, which is where their hand goes over 21. If this happens, the dealer automatically wins.¹⁾EDITOR NOTE: For detailed rules of the game of blackjack check out the rules of the game on this site.

Where to Find Blackjack Games Online

As mentioned previously, the majority of casino sites have blackjack games available to play. Sites such as GGBet Casino online have standard versions of the game as well as variants that introduce new features and gameplay changes. To find blackjack games, all you have to do is use the search feature. Type in ‘blackjack’ and all the options will appear.

Another way to find a casino’s blackjack games is by looking at particular categories. The lobby usually arranges the games into several main categories such as Slots, Table Games, Live Casino and so on. You’ll find animated blackjack games in the Table Games category and live ones in the Live Casino one.

Animated VS Live Blackjack Games

So what exactly are animated and live blackjack games? Most of the games you’ll find at online casinos are animated. This means they’re entirely computer-generated and use a piece of software called a random number generator (RNG) to determine outcomes. The RNG makes every single outcome, i.e. every card draw, completely random so that everyone has the same chances of winning.

As for live games, these are real-life games that take place in casinos or specially designed filming studios. A croupier acts as the dealer and oversees everything, using physical cards and a gaming table. When you opt in to a live game, you watch a high-definition broadcast of the action as it takes place in real time. You’re able to take part in the game through your device’s interface even though you’re not physically there.

Playing Blackjack Demos

Playing demos is a great way for beginners to get used to blackjack. With demos, you can learn the rules of the game, familiarize yourself with how everything works and even practice some strategies such as the basic blackjack strategy. At most online casinos, you can play animated versions of blackjack for free. Some sites only let you do this once you have an account. As for live versions of blackjack, these can’t be played for free. It’s only animated versions that offer demo play.

When playing a demo, the game works as normal. The only difference is that there’s no real money involved at all. Virtual credit is used instead of actual money. No matter how much you win or lose when playing blackjack demos, your casino balance won’t be affected.

Basic Blackjack Strategy

Because blackjack requires the player to make decisions, there’s room for strategic gameplay. When it’s your turn to act, every decision you make can influence the outcome of the game. Part of what makes the game so appealing is that it isn’t just about luck. Your decision-making can help you win the game.

There are some strategies that can improve your gameplay and make you think more carefully about what actions you take. The most straightforward one is basic blackjack strategy. This tells you what move is, statistically speaking, the best one to make based on your hand value and the dealer’s face-up card.

There’s a basic blackjack strategy table for every version of the game. If you want to use this strategy, simply go online and find a table that matches the blackjack game you’re playing. When it’s your turn to move, consult the table and see what the best move to make is.  Use the rule variations chart on this site to find the best rules to look for.

It’s important to point out that while this strategy can reduce your long-term losses, it can’t guarantee that you’ll win. Even if you use it, the dealer can still win and you may make a loss from your gameplay.  One important tip: Don’t play blackjack if they only pay 6 to 5 on a blackjack hand.  The best games pay 3 to 2!
