We’re home to all things blackjack, and our knowledge extends over generations. Blackjack has been a casino classic for centuries, and it first cropped up on the scene in French casinos around the 1700s. Its exact origins are something of a debate, but one thing we know for sure is that it’s a casino game that has stood the test of time, and needs no introduction. Known as one of the easiest games to pick up, this game leaves nobody out. From the smoky Vegas card rooms that we see in the movies to the high-rolling private tables that emulate 007 – this card game has seen it all.

Or has it?

Welcome to the metaverse.

What is it and how does it differ from regular Blackjack?

Though it may be hard to capture the hearts of the old-school gamers who grew up with physical casinos as their stomping grounds, the metaverse is a space that’s set to take the casino world as a whole by storm. Loved by millennials across the world, the metaverse is bringing blackjack into virtual reality.

Blending virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology, metaverse blackjack is changing the way we play, re-imagining this classic game completely. Let’s explore all that there is to know about blackjack in the metaverse, and what’s different from the game we know and love. Spoiler alert – you won’t be disappointed.

First things first, what is metaverse blackjack?

In simple terms, metaverse blackjack is just like your good old regular blackjack – but it’s fully digital and immersive. It’s played in a VR casino, where you can sit at a virtual casino table and chat with other players, just like you would at a physical location. The main difference is that the dealer won’t be the regular person you might see if you headed to your favorite land-based casino on a Friday night; instead, it’s a hyper-realistic AI figure. Oh, and the chips you’re betting with will most likely be cryptocurrency.

You might already be fond of the virtual world of online casinos, as it’s been around for years now, and has absolutely loads to offer. Most platforms provide a veritable buffet of games, laden with different variants and options to encourage players from all walks of life to join. You’ll find all kinds of gambling games like blackjack, as well as poker, slots, craps, baccarat, roulette, and more – all digitally rendered for the player’s convenience. You’ll also find live dealer action (with real people), making the digital casino almost as immersive as a physical one, and enhancing the experience tenfold. No matter what gambling games you enjoy, you’re likely to find them in the digital space.

Furthermore, many digital casinos offer users the option of either cryptocurrency or fiat currency, and they’ll frequently have better bonuses than physical casinos do… so they’re pretty attractive options! It’s little wonder that so many people have moved into the digital space for their casino needs in recent years, especially with the added security provided by cryptocurrency… and we see the metaverse as the next natural step for folks who want to go even further. Plenty of our favorite casinos might start adopting VR options in the near future, so let’s explore what a metaverse casino could look like!

Can You Count Cards in the Metaverse?

If you’re an OG blackjack lover, this might be your first question.

Well, the answer is yes AND no. Traditional card counting relies on a physical deck of cards that isn’t reshuffled after every hand. But in most virtual games, the deck is shuffled automatically after every single round – making card counting redundant. However, some digital casinos offer live dealer blackjack, where real cards are dealt and streamed into the virtual world where you are playing, and it’s easy to imagine metaverse casinos doing the same. That means card counting could potentially still work, but only if you’re playing the right type of game.

It’s therefore pretty important to check whether you’re in a live game with a real dealer, or faced with an AI dealer before you get started. On that note, let’s turn our attention to AI dealers next.

AI Dealers – Are They The Future?

In metaverse casinos, many blackjack tables don’t use human dealers. Instead, they use AI-powered dealers that can analyze bets, track patterns, and even adjust the way they deal. Many of these will be programmed to shuffle the deck after each hand, which might frustrate some of the traditional blackjack strategies. However, it’s not all bad news for enthusiastic players!

AI can also help players, especially any newcomers on the block. Smart blackjack AI assistants are being developed to help players learn the game, understand where they’re making mistakes, and figure out the optimal moves.

So, What’s Next?

Metaverse blackjack is still in its early stages, but the possibilities are going to be endless, just like anything with AI. Will AI dealers completely change the way the game is played? Will new strategies replace traditional card counting?

We’ll have to hang on a bit longer for now, until it’s properly rolled out – but in the meantime, we can count our lucky stars (or lucky 21) that online casinos are still standing strong, offering up amazing casino games.
