Blackjack Versus Slots

By John Davis.

It could be billed as Batman vs Superman, David vs Goliath, Barcelona vs Real Madrid, India vs Pakistan. While those rivalries have made their mark on the cinematic, biblical, and sporting worlds, the titanic tussle between blackjack and slots is one to interest casino enthusiasts all over the world. These two protagonists are commonly found in casinos from the U.S to Macao and their battle even spills over into the online world where online casinos are making their mark in the digital realm.

To compare and contrast the two in an attempt to work out which game is more enthralling, we shall use a couple of parameters as barometers to judge the two. Let battle commence.

Entertainment Value

When it comes to excitement, both games are capable of causing rapid surges of adrenaline. The thrill of hitting 21 compared to combining a winning payline is difficult to differentiate. However, one factor that plays into the favor of slots is the ability for game developers to include bonus rounds to vary the game play. Slots where you can buy the bonus and progress quickly to bonus rounds with higher multipliers have proved extremely popular with slots fans.

The variety on the blackjack table extends as far as splitting your two cards and creating another hand when you are dealt two of the same value cards. But in the way of game themes to suit each individual, which online slots also offer a wide variety of, there is only one winner here.

Luck vs Skill

When it comes to intricacies in a casino game, there are games with more complex rules like baccarat and poker and a general rule of thumb is that with more rules, comes more skill. The complexities involved in blackjack involve working out the chances of your hand going over 21 or the dealer’s chances of beating your hand. Card counters amongst us will find this easier, but as with all casino games, there is a strong element of risk and reward.

The advantage blackjack has though is that the player is at least in control of their destiny. With slots games, the fate is decided by the random number generator that is a key part of the workings of many online casino games. But the clue is in the “random.” Luck plays an influential role in online slots games, and this is also represented in the Return to Player (RTP) percentages of the two games.

There are a few variables with Return to Player percentages, but when simply looking at the basic execution of game strategies, blackjack comes out with a higher RTP, even as high as 99.6%. Online slots on the other hand averages out at around 96%.

Potential

Despite the unprecedented levels of success enjoyed by online casinos, they are still in their infancy and there is plenty of potential to extract and space to grow into. We alluded earlier to the capabilities of game developers, and they will only become greater as technology and software advances.

Out of the two games, this would most likely favor slots more due to the creation and inclusion of characters and other moving graphics and symbols on the screen. However, despite the fact these aspects can be made even more dynamic and interactive, the future inevitable implementation of augmented and virtual reality could significantly spice up the way both games are played. It remains to be seen how this tech will be integrated into blackjack and slots games, but there is potential for elevated excitement in both games.

However, at the end of the day, the choice of casino game is usually down to an individual preference. Some might like to dabble in all, while some might stick to one and try to master it. Both blackjack and slots contribute massively to casinos, physical and online, and both command a significant presence on those floors and platforms. But the choice of trying to hit 21 or bag the big bonus is yours.
