Since the 1700’s, blackjack has been played in venues around the world and remains one of the most sought-after casino games to the present day. Amongst the impressive selection of games on offer at casinos, including roulette, poker, slots, baccarat, and craps, blackjack tables have continued to decorate casino halls from Las Vegas to Macau. But what is it about the race to 21 that continues to dazzle those that wander through casino doors, and even those playing in a new up-and-coming format?

Simplicity at its best
While a game of roulette predominantly comes down to chance, with the pill able to land in any of the 37 or 38 slots on the wheel (depending on where you are playing), and poker being more about the skill applied to the hand dealt, blackjack falls nicely somewhere between the two, as a game of skill doused with a sprinkle of luck. However, that luck can also be turned into skill. You will need to read on to find out why.
Beat the dealer
The magic number to have in your head is 21. And players are playing solely against the dealer. Each player on the table will receive two cards face up, while the dealer deals himself or herself one card face up, and another face down. Then a decision must be made by the player whether to stay with what they have (“stick”) or request another card (“twist”).
The aim is to predict what the dealer’s second card is and achieve a total from the number of cards you end with before you “stick” that is higher than the dealer’s total. If your total comes to 21 on the first two cards, you hit blackjack and immediately win! The beauty of the game lies in its simplicity. Everyone is playing against the dealer, and the primary objective is to ensure your total beats the dealer, or you hit blackjack.
Make blackjack buddies
Depending on whether there are other players at the table, playing blackjack can also be an exciting social experience. The game is fast, but between hands or during, there is always the opportunity to swap stories with other playing parties. After all, there is already a communal aspect shared on the table that each player is trying to defeat the dealer.

Count your way to success
While there is always an element of luck involved with blackjack, there is a way to turn more of that luck on your side. Card counting is a practice that is not illegal, but frowned upon, but nonetheless can be implemented at casinos around the world. It is a mathematical element that brings blackjack more into the realm of a skill game. The film, 21, featuring Kevin Spacey, is based on card counting and gives an insight into how it works for the more visual learners.
Enter the online realm
Casinos worldwide are still attracting players through their doors in their droves, but there is another alternative for casino enthusiasts, and it can be played from the comfort of your home. Online casinos are currently creating positive headlines in the casino world, with many markets in the world growing exponentially. The same blackjack rules apply, but they are presented instead in an interactive, user-friendly way on desktop computers, mobile phone and tablet apps. Live online casinos are also beginning to make a name for themselves. This connects online players with live dealers via video link and gives online blackjack a more real feel and adds to the overall gaming experience.
Venture to international online casinos
The convenience factor with online casinos is extended to greater accessibility. The U.S currently does not impose any restrictions like those imposed on online slots in the United Kingdom, which is leading players under those restrictions to seek USA casinos for UK players. With most online casino borders open to international players, it is possible to take a trip to a foreign online casino to explore their platforms and any nuances in approach to bonuses, features, or games on offer. With online casinos rapidly increasing their presence in all corners of the world, the future could be online.
