There are those largely uneducated individuals who feel that playing any type of casino or table game means effectively trusting your bets entirely to luck. They are wrong. While it’s true that luck plays a massive part in most activities you may encounter in a casino (online or offline), there are also some elements that are entirely in your own control.
When you are looking for the best casinos to play blackjack for real money, there are a number of factors to choosing one that works for your needs and, above all else, is secure and trustworthy. Once you’ve found a relevant provider that gives you this assurance and has a desktop and app service that is forward-thinking, progressive, and great fun to visit, you’ll then need to help improve your chances on the blackjack table.
Here are five simple tips that will help put the odds back in your favor.
Double Down When Appropriate
This should be a golden rule of any blackjack strategy. Put in simple terms, the idea here is to make hay while the sun is shining. In other words, when the odds are in your favor you should double down. Generally, doubling down is appropriate when you have a 9 versus a small dealer card or 10 or 11 against most dealer cards. For example, if you have 11 (a strong starting player hand) you should be ready to place more money on the table. In cases like this, the chances are very much in your favor and these are occasions when you can’t afford to play it safe.
Split When You Get a Pair
This is another no-brainer. Although not all pairs should be split, when basic strategy advises you to, splitting will improve your chances of a session win. If the casino rules allow it, double down after splitting can also be highly profitable.
Quit When You Are Ahead
Do not push it. If you have done well and you start to see your pot dwindling, don’t keep pushing, be sensible. Set yourself financial boundaries both in terms of winnings and losses so that if you reach a point of no return in either direction, then you’ll know when to call it a day.
Remember, overall, you are playing for fun, and if you are losing far too much money, then chasing your losses is a fool’s game. This is the case in all forms of gambling.
Follow an Easy to Follow Blackjack Basic Strategy
Base your bets on what the dealer is presenting to you and adjust according to the dealer’s up-card. If your dealer has a ten, then you know you’ll probably need a strong hand to beat him. Similarly, if the dealer has a poor up-card, such as a five or six, then you should push your advantage but also clearly pay attention to what you have.
For example, you will often be standing with a poor hand when you see the dealer with a small card. The hope here is to allow the dealer to bust (go over 21). These type of decisions are called blackjack basic strategy.
Don’t Worry About Your Fellow Players
Remember, the object of the game is to beat the dealer. What other players have isn’t really your concern. The actions of other players at the table won’t affect the odds one bit. Clearly, it may have an impact on what cards are available but remember you should be concerned about your hand and that of the dealer. You have no control over what other players do; only your own game matters.
Good luck!
Joe is absolutely right in the tips he gives, however, I would add–never play in a casino where you’re not allowed to double any two cards. It’s the single most powerful tool you have to beat blackjack. Without it, even if you a good counter and know your matrix numbers, it’s very hard to win.
